Dolph Lundgren debuted in front of the camera with a small roll in A VIEW TO A KILL, the 1985 JAMES BOND movie. That same year he landed his career-changing role of IVAN DRAGO in ROCKY IV. Twenty years later, after starring in over 35 films, Dolph was given the opportunity to finally move to behind the camera and direct his own picture.

Dolph's first feature film was the thriller The Defender (2004) in which he also starred. In 2005, he directed and starred in yet another feature, The Mechanik (2005) (a.k.a. THE RUSSIAN SPECIALIST), which Dolph also had co-written and that was shot in Bulgaria on a 30-day schedule.. In the spring 2007, he co-wrote and directed a modern day western shot in Texas, Missionary Man (2007) for Sony Pictures. In 2009 he completed two new directorial efforts, the action-packed Command Performance (2009) which showcases Lundgren's longtime musical talents as a drummer; and the neo-noir thriller Icarus (2010), lensed in Vancouver, Canada on an amazing 18-day schedule.

Dolph plans on spending more of his time as a writer and behind the camera in the future, using his extensive experience in the media to create and direct his own projects. As a filmmaker Dolph finds the opportunity of working with actors his favorite part of the job. "I like to create an environment where the actors feel free to create…".

Dolph currently has three projects in the works that he will direct. SKIN TRADE, an action-thriller about human trafficking set in New York and Moscow; WANTED MAN, a film set on and around the Mexican border and NORDIC LIGHT, a period-piece spy-drama about the German-Swedish involvement in WWI.

"Action films are what I'm known for as an actor. As a director I can use the medium to express my creativity in a different way and after acting in 40-some films, directing presents a broader challenge to me while still keeping me in touch with my core audience."

Dolph explains: "Action films are an extension of Greek Myths such as Homer's The ILIAD. Everybody's life has a mythical quality. Even today. You struggle against obstacles -- you fight to get to a higher level. There are always friendships and great loves to help you along the way.

In an action film these story elements are just more apparent.

That's why people will always crave action movies.
